Main Cottage
The Main Cottage on Badour Island, was designed and built by Jonathan Rousham and was written up in Fine Homebuilding.
It is a beautiful post and beam cottage, with windows everywhere. The floors are pine, there is an open plan kitchen—for the 2019 season, there are new cabinets, a new counter, and a new farm sink—dining room, and living room. A wood burning stove sits in the middle of the large room. The ceilings are two floors high, with a second set of windows on all four sides 16 feet high. It looks like a pagoda.
There are three small bedrooms. One flight up is a bedroom with a queen size bed, surrounded on three sides by windows. The 4th side overlooks the living room. It is like a crows nest, which was one name we thought of for the building.
On the main floor, are two bedrooms, each with a wall of windows. One has a queen size bed. The other has bunk beds with a double bed on the bottom.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher and trash compactor. We have a water purification system and the water is safe to drink from all the faucets.
There is a large deck across the front of the cottage that wraps around to the back where there is a gas bbq. There are hammocks and swinging chairs on the property. There are tables to eat out on the deck and chairs to relax in as you take in the beautiful view of the lake.
In back of the cottage is a shed with a washer and dryer, and a half size basketball court lit at night, with mural, and an outdoor [hot] shower.
The dock [79 steps down] has a deck with six Adirondack chairs and a chaise lounge, a shed with refrigerator for cool drinks and storage for tubes, fishing poles, water skis and paddles.
We compost our fruits and vegetables in a composter in the back of the cottage, not only for environmental reasons, but to limit the trash that we collect. All trash has to be brought to the dumpster on Bradshaw Rd. The trash compactor considerably limits the amount. We also recycle.
The dining table seats 8 comfortably, but can be extended to fit 20 by adding on any of the three outdoor tables that are the same height and width.
There is a ping pong table, chess set, board games and puzzles.
Guest Cottage
The guest cottage sits a few yards away from the main cottage. Downstairs is a large living room with a Futon couch that opens up into a double bed. There is a punching bag and boxing gloves for you to work out with, as well as an exercise bicycle.
The guest cottage has two covered porches, one downstairs and one off the bedroom on the second floor each with a gorgeous view of the lake. (Actually, that was the spot I had picked for the main cottage, but the builder changed the location on me and had all the posts in by the time I had arrived – so the guest cottage got the best view).
Upstairs is a beautiful bedroom with a queen size bed, air conditioner, telescope, skylight that opens and another covered porch with an even more gorgeous view of the lake.
Tree House
The Tree House is the Coolest Structure–It is on an adjacent plot of land, has a queen-sized bed, rocking chair, deck, skylight, stained glass window, a mural of Bobs lake, a lead beveled glass front door and a doggie ramp in the back, built for our poodle who liked to be up there with me. It is very romantic and has no electricity.
Glamping & Safari Tents
Our glamping tent has a deck, a king-sized bed, a hammock, and gives lots of privacy.
